Roni McConner

Roni comes from a family of music, art and dance.  Hoping to keep up with her older brother and sister, she began her own dance career at the ripe old age of 3. She began her training with Margie Jenks, Bessie Clark and Judy McJunkin in the San Jose area.  Tap, Jazz, Hawaiian, acrobatics and ballet were all part of her dance program, with her forte being tap.  Around 12 years of age, Roni began to assist in teaching various classes, including the “younger set” of aspiring dancers.  Shortly after that, she began teaching as a full instructor. As a Glamorette with the Bessie Clark dancers and a Starlet with the Judy McJunkin dancers, this was today’s equivalent to being a Senior Company member.

Becoming a part of Dance Masters of America was truly an honor for Roni, as DMA is one of the few dance organizations in the world to certify their teachers.  As a member of DMA, she had the opportunity to study with many dance “greats” at workshops and conventions; including, Keith Clifton, Debbie Dee, Joseph Giacobbe, Al Gilbert, Gus Giordano, Stanley Kahn, Joe Lanteri, Greg Russell, and the late great Eleanor Powell.  Roni was also DMA’s Miss Dance of California-Chapter 13. She performed for local benefits and charities as well as for our armed forces at: Fort Ord, Camp Pendleton, Hunter Liggett and Monterey Presidio.

In 1979, Roni moved with her husband and children to the Foresthill.  There she taught tap and jazz out of her home for 18 years.  She went on to become the owner and director of Roseville School of Dance. She sold the studio in 2005 to the current owners of what is now Lines School of Performing Arts.
